Arcana or History Check:

• 10: Thunderspire is a place which used to hold great power and wisdom, but is now home to evil humanoids : hobgoblins. Historically, the creatures were no serious threat to a well-armed caravan, but they have recently begun to raid nearby villages and passing traders, kidnapping people alive for some nefarious purpose.
• 15: The recent trend of kidnapping people alive indicates that the hobgoblins may be trafficking in slaves with the brutal races of the Underdark, which means there must be a passage down to that dark realm from the Thunderspire.
